Magaya gets his power from snakes: Vapositori

The war between Vapositori and Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) leader Walter Magaya is intensifying with the Vapositori yesterday claiming they have approached its association for permission “to destroy artefacts” which they claim Magaya uses to lure people to his church.

The vapositori claim that God had revealed to them that Magaya was not a Man of God, but uses magic and other ungodly antics to lure people to his congregation.

They said Magaya, who recently accused them of using evil spirits was the one who was possessed with demons and used evil spirits to lure people to his church.

They have now approached their Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) president Archbishop Johannes Ndanga to get police clearance for permission to raid Magaya and destroy all the artefacts, which they claim, include snakes, which Magaya uses as his source of spiritual power.

Ndanga at the weekend confirmed that he had been approached by a group of Vapositori seeking permission to raid Magaya and expose him.

“Yes, they [Vapositori] came. This is the not the first time they have come to me seeking permission. They first came and I said no. They are renewing the effort now. They say they want to capture his things,” Ndanga said.

Ndanga refused to disclose what the Vapositori claimed to have been shown by God that Magaya uses, saying it was an issue they were trying to handle well with his members.

But close sources claim that the vapositori had brought a cocktail of grievances that they said would expose about Magaya should they secure permission from Ndanga and the police. The Vapositori are frothing with anger after Magaya wrote in his booklet titled: Marine Spirits, Mweya Yemumvura in which he claimed Vapositori were “marine spirits from dark kingdom”.

“He [Magaya] has snakes that live in oil. The same oils are given to people as anointing oil. We want to destroy them. God has showed us,” said one of the Vapositori, who refused to be named as the issue was still being handled by Ndanga.

Excerpts of the booklet were broadcasted on his Yadah TV channel. He branded all the white-garment churches as agents of evil spirits with a propensity to threaten congregants with death.

“It is from these Orion and Leviathan spirits of the marine kingdom where false, non-Bible believing white garment churches are derived,” Magaya said in his booklet.

“It is also unfortunate that many people have been deceived to follow or visit these kinds of shrines (masowe) in an effort to go over their problems, yet to no avail.

“Many people who have visited these non-Bible believing churches have had their problems worsened while others have been permanently hooked to them after receiving various continuous serious threats including death (zviga zverufu netsaona) thereby becoming members,” he added.

Magaya’s remarks did not go well with the ACCZ, a grouping over 700 apostolic christian churches in the country. He also received a sharp rebuke from Zanu PF youth provincial chairperson Godwin Gomwe, who warned the charismatic preacher to leave the Vapositori alone.

Efforts to get a comment from Magaya failed yesterday as his lawyer Everson Chatambudza failed to reach the PHD founder after yesterday’s service.

“I failed to reach him. I will try to get his response tomorrow [today],” Chatambudza said.

Corporal punishment banning: a religious and cultural perspective

$

NEWS that the High Court has outlawed corporal punishment left many people shell-shocked, with murmurs of disapproval reverberating in social discourse. The shock judgment on the 16th of January hit conservatives squarely between the eyes and many are still battling to come to terms with the unanticipated reality. To think that this unforeseen development comes in the wake of school authorities and parents grappling with serious delinquent behavior is quite dispiriting.

As it stands, schools are awash with cases of incorrigible school die-hards who defy authority at every turn. Last year witnessed not one but two incidences of high school students engaging in sexual orgies and so-called ‘nude parties.’ Drug abuse and unwanted pregnancies are consequences the society haggles with every day and surely to do away with corporal punishment deserves to be put under the microscope. It befuddles the mind how we expect to implant self-discipline and restraint when we have school children who know that they can blatantly disregard authority and get away with a counseling session.

This ruling came at the review of the case of a 15-year old juvenile who was accused of rape. In this light, Justice Esther Muremba nullified Section 353 sub section 1 of The Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act (CPE). The constitution being the supreme law of the land, and drawing from Section 175 subsection 1, renders the statute invalid; no more can a child be physically disciplined. A child, now, can only be rehabilitated.

Now, this scenario should sends shivers down the spines of farsighted people. Questions naturally arise; will this cultivate a disciplined and orderly society? Will it build children into the obedient people that we all want? What is the effect of this ruling for posterity? Honestly, there are serious doubts whether this scenario brings forth the refined and responsible citizens we yearn for.

Is it not ironical that the law itself, drawing from behavioural sciences, operates on the premise that punishment is an established mechanism to correct behavior? Essentially, the main purpose of the law is to prevent socially intolerable conduct or, at least, to hold unacceptable conduct within socially acceptable limits. By threatening punishment, the law tries to suppress anti-social conduct likely to disrupt society. This is the ground upon which law is built. So it naturally follows that lack of punishment fosters the very mutinous and rebellious conduct we seek to curb as a society.

Traditionally, we are all fully aware that had it not been for the stick, most of us would not have grown into the socially responsible adults that we became. Most people confirm that they owe their discipline to the stick. Corporal punishment dates back to time immemorial and has been readily used to usefully correct deviant behaviour.

It would be wrong of us to try and draw from the West where corporal punishment is outlawed because our value systems and perceptions are poles apart. I am yet to see, whether, from a traditional or religious perspective, the good that is to be derived from not disciplining children. Penalizing children helps their minds to construct a sturdy sense of right and wrong. Having attended an Anglican School, I am fully aware of the coercive influence and rehabilitative power of corporal punishment. It brings about order and penance.

There is a lot to learn when watching how dogs are trained. It’s a simple truth which applies to both man and animals: behaviour that is rewarded will be repeated and wrong behaviour that is not punished will also be reinforced. That a juvenile who rapes a toddler can only be talked to does not, in the slightest, deter or help him to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions. The banning of corporal punishment militates heavily against the advancement of good morals.

The Bible, is not silent on the matter, but is unequivocal:

“Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod he will not die”(Proverbs 23)
“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid”(proverbs 12:1).
“Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death”(proverbs 19:18)

Indeed by sparing the road we spoil the child; we may actually be setting the wrong precedent and breeding outlaws who will brag about transgressions. As I wrap up, it does not matter which angle you look at it from – cultural, traditional or religious – the outcome is the same: abolishing discipline spoils children. True love should safeguard and protect and not harm.

Music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi will feature on gospel musician Mathias Mhere’s third album “Glory to Glory” to be released this Friday.

The eight track album will see Mtukudzi featuring on a track titled “Tsano Handei”.

Mtukudzi’s manager Sam Mataure confirmed the development saying it was another chance for the superstar to show his passion in uplifting upcoming artists.

“It is good because mudhara (Tuku) is working with artists from different genres showing his passion to see the music industry growing,” he said.

Mataure said people should expect a number of interesting collaborations this year.

Mhere said he was happy that the “Kudzinga Hwema” hit maker accepted his request for collaboration.

“We still have a lot to learn from mudhara (Tuku) and we are grateful that he accepted our request,” he said.

Mhere said all the ground work has been done and fans should look forward to a different package.

“Most of the songs are complete and by the end of this month everything will be in place,” he said.

The “Favour” hit maker said he has engaged new producer Charles Ayibeki on the album.

“My previous albums have been done by Lyton Ngolomi but for a change this one we have Ayibeki as our producer,” he said.

Gospel musicians who released their albums 2014 are crying foul following their failure to get nominated for the National Merit Awards to be held this Saturday.

Forgotten musician Agatha Murudzwa made it to the nominees and she will be battling with Cindy Munyavi and Cynthia Mare on best female musician.

Sabastain Magacha has been ridding well with his album “Ridza Bvosvo” but failed to make it.

The leading gospel couple Charles and Olivia released an album “Wenazareth”.

Mathias Mhere made headlines in 2014 after he released an album “Anoita Minana” that was well received by fans.

On the other hand Leonard Zhakata’s gospel song “Dhonza Makomborero” that topped the charts last year failed to make it to the prestigious awards.

Mutare based musician Blessing Shumba released an album “Ndijesu” that was rated the best among them all did not see the green light.

Fungisai Zvakavapano’s “social facts” could not see the light of the day.

Gospel artists who could not say their names on professional reasons said their work was supposed to be recognised.

“We have done our best but the fact that all these albums failed to get recognition means a lot,” he said.

Another gospel musician said though they accept the outcome of the nominees there was need at least to recognise one of the albums and artists who released new material last year.

Others said there was need to honour one of them as a way of appreciating one of them.

A local pastor Enock Kapfumvuti said honouring gospel musicians is another way of appreciating how God is using them.

“They are send by God to do these things and if those responsible for honouring them can do something then it means they are thanking God,” he said.

Residence here in Muswera community in Chipinge have hailed the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe for maintaining the local clinic.

The clinic which was build under Constituency Development Fund was handed over to the church in 2012.

Kudzai Myambo said the church has managed to keep the standards adding that the clinic has saved a number of people.

“This clinic is in hands of God because the hospital staff is committed since 2010,” said Myambo.

One James Musonza said people were coming in their numbers to seek medical attention at the clinic.

“We have seen people coming from as far as Checheche to seek medical attention,” he said.

A local councilor said the clinic has improved the health system in the community.

“They used to walk long distances to go clinics but now we have it and the church has done their best to save the life of people,” he said.

He urged several churches to follow such steps taken by UCCZ to make sure the people are served.

President of the UCCZ, Reverend Edward Matuvhunye,  said on the official opening of the church they promised quality health delivery.

“We told them that the church would ensure that quality health services are delivered to the community, which is mostly affected by diseases such as malaria.I think we have gone miles in achieving that,” said Matuvhunye.

“A number of people from this area have been dying from preventable and treatable diseases such as malaria.,” he said.

Rev Matuvhunye said his church had served Chipinge district for more than a century and was happy with the level of confidence shown by the local community.

The clinic, was officially opened by the then Health and Child welfare minister, Henry Madzorera in 2011.

Patients were paying US$5 to access services, an amount which contributed towards the salaries of the health staff and other employees.

Matuvhunye said they had successfully registered the clinic with the Ministry of Health.

Popular gospel musician Noel Zembe who was once involved in a car crush has bounced back.

The Ndaiwana Hama hit maker was involved in an omnibus accident in Mbare a about a year ago leaving his leg amputated.

Last week at an album launch of Reverend Chivariro the musician performed leaving fans asking for more.

He said he will drop a new album before mid year.

“A new album is coming and fans  should look forward to something great,” he said.

He said experience and what God has done to him was enough to inspire him to pen songs.

“God spoke to me during that time and songs are there. As I speak the album is almost done with most songs awaiting the final stage,” he said.

The yet to be named album was recorded at Artsan Studios located in the city Centre.

Zembe started music in 1985 as a member of Scanners International together with Emmanuel Thomas, the late Primrose Sithole, Jivas Dzotizei, Philbert Marowa, the late Bob Manwere and Wellington Masvosva.

Based in Dzivaresekwa suburb, the youthful group released the single Chauya Chauya in 1986 before meeting promoter Professor Fred Zindi, also a musician, during the 1987 Independence Day celebrations at Rufaro Stadium in Harare.

Zindi adopted the group and renamed it Black Fusion before changing the name to Frontline Kids.

In 1992, the group changed its name to the Frontline Crew because the members had grown up and so could not pass for kids.

While others sought their own dreams, Zembe went into chemical manufacturing and later returned to music and recorded the single Baba Thoko with High-Density Studios under the Zeal project.

Later, he turned to gospel and recorded Ndaiwana Hama, Ndega Ndega and Pinda Mudanga. He managed to introduce a fresh gospel beat with inspiring lyrics which saw him becoming one of the best gospel musicians ever to come out of Zimbabwe.

St Peter’s Mbare parish reaches out to orphans

St Peters Mbare parish is running a social service program that is meant to help support the education of orphaned and vulnerable children.

The program, which offers financial support towards the education of 85 children, was named after the late Jesuit priest who previously served the Mbare community at St Peters parish, Fr William Smaulders.

Fr. Smaulders died in a car accident in 1975 and was well known for his unconcealed love and care for the vulnerable children especially orphans. This prompted his relatives and associates to initiate a fund to sustain his legacy of supporting Mbare’s vulnerable children.

The support is mainly through payment of school fees and the provision of other educational material.

St Peters Parish priest, Fr Ignatius Tambudzai S.J, who is pleased with how the program has been running so far, said they are now engaging friends and relatives of the children they are already supporting, with a view of sharing, even by way of small contributions, the education costs.

“We have engaged some relatives and guardians of the students and encouraged them to meet some of the children’s educational costs so that they don’t feel crippled by our support. They should also take responsibility for the education of their children, even in a small way,” said Fr. Tambudzai S.J

Many of the beneficiaries attend school at the Church’s St Peters Primary and Secondary schools, but a few others are enrolled at Harare High and St Paul Musami High school, thanks also to other well-wishers.

Fr. Tambudzai said there are many vulnerable and orphaned children around Mbare and they would want to increase the number of their beneficiaries from 85 to 100. He called for local donations to help support the growth of the program. Inclusive fees for the primary school range at $70 per and $150 per term at St Peter’s primary and secondary schools respectively.

“We are willing to widen the pool and assist about 100 children but that calls for love from more people. We welcome especially local people from within the church and those outside the church who are willing to give these children some assistance.”

Apart from the financial support, Fr Tambudzai S.J said they are designing a program as well to help the social and spiritual growth of the beneficiaries.

MUTARE-BASED gospel musician Blessing Shumba said he has resorted to live recording.

The musician, who has done digital recording for his three albums, said he has resorted to live recording.

In an interview, Shumba said he is now working on his fifth album adding that live instruments are vital in inspiring the lives of people.

“Even if we read in the bible music was used to boost the moral and as gospel musicians we should do our best so that people get inspired by our lyrics,” he said.

He said on the live instrument he will include  acoustic guitar.

“As artists we grow adding a number of things to our music and for our coming album we will be adding acoustic guitar to it,” said Shumba.

He said he was working on a DVD for his latest album “Ndijesu” that will be released in March.

The musician said he was not competing with anyone but to preach the word of God.

“In most cases people would want to compare artistes, especially gospel, but we are just preachers,” he said.

The musician gave a well polished act at the show held over the weekend at Max Village where more than 400 people attended.

Songs from his new album including “Nyaradzai Vanhu”, “Kutenda Chii?”, “Chimwe ne Chimwe” and “Usachema-chema” are popular among his fans.

The musician almost turned the event into a church service as he preached before he performed the songs.

Shumba, who rose to stardom after the release of his debut album “Ishe Wazvose” in 2008, has four albums up his sleeve.

He became a force to reckon with on the local showbiz circuit in 2011 after his song “Mufaro” from the award-winning album “NdiMwari” that was number two on Radio Zimbabwe Coca-Cola Pimped Up and Ride Top 50.

Prophet Magaya in trouble

Prophet Magaya (photo: B Kanhamora).

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader, Walter Magaya is in trouble with Zimbabwe’s largest Christian group, Vapositori, which has vowed to expose him as a magician and fake prophet.

As the fight between the two Christian denominations escalated last week, the Vapositori group said its members were challenging Magaya to an open spiritual power contest.

Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) president Archbishop Johannes Ndanga said the fallout between his 700-member church grouping and Magaya now calls for an open contest to prove the source of power each of the denomination uses.

Last week, Vapositori said God had revealed to them that Magaya was not a Man of God, but used artifacts — including snakes — as the source of his spiritual power to draw large crowds to his congregation.

They were responding to Magaya’s claim in his book titled Marine Spirits, Mweya Yemumvura in which he branded all white-garment churches popularly known as Vapositori as agents of evil marine spirits from the dark kingdom — with a propensity to threaten congregants with death.

“We are now daring him [Magaya] to an open contest to prove that he does not use power from God,” Archbishop Ndanga said.

“There is nothing unusual, even in the Bible, in the book of Exodus; Moses had such a contest with Egyptian magicians when Pharaoh refused to release the children of Israel to Canaan — their promised land. The same contest happened again in the book of Kings when Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal.”

Archbishop Ndanga added: “We are now calling Magaya to a similar contest. He should exorcise the marine spirits in us and we will expose his snakes. If he wants them, we will not kill them, but the people will know where he draws his power from.”

Moses in the book in Exodus, Chapter 7, had a power contest with Egyptian magicians who could perform miracles and the power of God prevailed, the same happened when Elijah challenged King Ahab’s 450 idol worshipers and prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of the goddess Asherah who were supported by Queen Jezebel and killed them in Mount Carmel.

Ndanga said Magaya was a “magician” and religious entrepreneur out to fleece the poor out of their hard-earned cash.
“Jesus used water; he was baptised in water, so was John the Baptist. If we have marine spirits, then we are taking them from our master Jesus Christ of Nazareth whom we worship,” Archbishop Ndanga added.

Efforts to get a comment from Magaya since last Sunday through his lawyer Everson Chatambudza yielded no results. Questions were sent to him inquiring if he would be willing to take up the challenge by the Vapostori to a spiritual power duel, but no response had been received at the time of going to press.

In his booklet broadcast, on his Yadah TV channel, Magaya branded all apostolic churches as agents of evil.

“It is from these Orion and Leviathan spirits of the marine kingdom where false, non-Bible believing white garment churches are derived,” Magaya said in his booklet.

“It is also unfortunate that many people have been deceived to follow or visit these kinds of shrines [masowe] in an effort to go over their problems, yet to no avail.

“Many people who have visited these non-Bible believing churches have had their problems worsened, while others have been permanently hooked to them after receiving various continuous serious threats including death [zviga zverufu netsaona] thereby becoming members,” he added.

Magaya’s remarks drew wide outrage from the ACCZ and Zanu PF waded into the fight, with the party youth provincial chairperson for Harare, Godwin Gomwe warning the charismatic preacher against vilifying Vapositori whom he said were his party’s all-weather friends.

Some members of the Vapositori then approached their association claiming they had also discovered the source of Magaya’s power and sought permission to “destroy Magaya’s snakes and other artifacts” which they claimed were used to lure people to his church.
“He [Magaya] has snakes that live in oil. The same oils are given to people as anointing oil. We want to destroy them. God has showed us,” said one of the Vapositori, who refused to be named claiming the issues was being handled by Archbishop Ndanga.

Magaya, however told The Weekend Post that he was unfazed by the attack on his person by the Vapositori and any of their associates, possibly Zanu PF, as his message was from God.

I do not say things from my head, but God has instructed me to deliver that message, hence I did so. God knows the reason why he sent me with that type of message, hence I am not worried about what society might say,” Magaya said.

We don’t believe in the Bible: Madzibaba

A senior member of Johane Masowe apostolic sect has claimed they do not believe in “a weak man” — Jesus Christ, and disregard the Bible as God’s book.

Responding to Prophetic Healing and Deliverance founder Walter Magaya’s assertion that Vapositori were “marine spirits from the dark kingdom”, Australian-based Madzibaba Tawona who claims to be a bona fide member of Johane Masowe YeChishanu said in a lengthy article published by an online publication, that his religion was called Masowe.

He said the sect had no use for the Bible as the “holy spirit” explained that the book was not a true reflection of God’s word.

Almost confirming Magaya’s sentiments, Tawona dismissed the existence of Jesus Christ saying the name Christianity was never revealed by God.

He said: “We have never needed it. We will never need it! The explanation given by the Holy Spirit was/ is that, the Bible in its form is not the true Word of God.”

Strangely, he however, quotes the Bible extensively in his article.

“As far as they (Christians) are concerned, Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, He is the truth, the light and the way! Never mind any other abominations that were committed in between.

“Does it make sense that Jesus, the core of the Christian Religion, received no revelation about his religion yet unidentified individuals and disciples of disciples like Paul got that revelation?” queried Tawona.

He  also claims that Jesus never received revelations as was the case with other prophets before and after him.

“Moses got revelations. Muhammad got revelations. Why not Jesus? Why does the Bible quote so many Gospels instead of just one from Jesus to avoid contradictions and ambiguities? In the context of the bible, Jesus is a weak man,” said Tawona, exuding deep knowledge of the Bible he claims he does not read by quoting from Matthew 15:11, Mark 7:15 and 1 Timothy 4:4”.

Tawona went on to say  the ‘‘holy’’ spirit is with them they did not need “to read from written records when we can readily consult and be provided with reliable immediate responses the same way it happened with those to whom the Holy Spirit first visited in the Middle East”.

Madzibaba Tawona’s article however, is laden with inexplicable contradictions where he goes on to claim that their religion does not allow them to be baptised.

Despite dismissing Magaya as someone who does not understand Vapositori, Madzibaba surprisingly concurred with the popular preacher that the religion’s prophets were in the habit of threatening their congregants with their prophecies.

“Indeed, some prophets have made such claims and that is wrong and against the founding doctrine of the Religion that was revealed to the Messenger of God.

“Under the Laws of our Religion, revealed in 1936 as Dare raJakopo (The Court or Constitution of Jacob) that was revealed to the late Madzibaba Edson Chokururama vekuMutedza kwaNgwerume, Murehwa, we are sternly discouraged from using water lilies (hapa), rock pebbles (nhombo), carved reeds (zvipiyaniso zvetsanga), all forms of wooden carvings (zvivezwa zvemihacha or mibhestreji), prayer shrines constructed out of rocks and stones (kirawa), give false or intimidating prophesies or wear garments of different colours from white or garments with decorations of any kind.

“We are not supposed to be baptised as yet. I repeat, no baptism as yet, because the Lord has not yet revealed the River, the Baptist and the prayers required for that to happen.

“We only wait patiently and prayerfully for instructions, we don’t name ourselves or choose rivers. The Lord does. Doing anything without instruction from Him is tantamount to worshipping deities and the Lord detests that!”

He praised Magaya for raising issues around threats and use of earthly decorations around prayer shrines.

“I agree that Mr Magaya has a very valid point and thanks for raising it because that has allowed me time to sit down and clarify on the matter.”

He however, dismissed Magaya’s knowledge of Johane Masowe yeChishanu as “based on superficial dogma”.

“I ask him to research more about Dare raJakopo to find more value about the dignity of this beautiful Religion”.

He all but confirmed Magaya’s assertion that the white garment apostolic sects are not Christian organisations saying the scriptures do not mention the Christian religion which means it was not revealed by God.

“Christians believe the book was revealed by God period! Dear reader, remember I explained about the revelations to Baba Sixpence Shonhiwa who was renamed Johane Masowe by God?

“In the entire Masowe YeChishanu Religion, the name Johane Masowe is mentioned, sung and interpreted. Similarly, to quote from the Bible, when the Lord chose Abram the son of Terah to be his main servant to carry his prayers for mankind, he renamed him Abraham. There was no book for Abraham to read.

“There were no scriptures, only The Holy Spirit through Angels Gabriel and Michael..,” he added.

Interestingly, the  Masowe member accuses Christians of the New Testament of elevating Jesus to the position of God himself.

He argued that Christians’ belief in the Holy Trinity of the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit is wrong.

“The church today puts Jesus above The Almighty. All their prayers are dedicated to Jesus yet Jesus is the Son of the Creator. Jesus admits in John 5:30 that by Himself He could do nothing yet the church make Him mightier than His Father”.

The publication titled, Marine Spirits, Mweya Yemumvura: Teaching by Prophet W Magaya,  invited  backlash from Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe boss Johaness Ndanga who alleged that Magaya used the head of a vulture to perform miracles.

Respect country laws churches urged

The Minister of State in the President’s Office  Simon Khaya Moyo has urged churches to respect the laws of the country to avoid humiliation.

Speaking at the 1st year anniversary celebrations of  Indigenous Pastors Fraternity of Zimbabwe (IPFZ) held at Mbare Netball Complex at the weekend, Khaya Moyo said churches should respect the laws of the country.

“I urge all churches to respect the laws of this country and not to be wolves in sheep’s clothing,” he said.

He said churches must be places of worship and salvation and not self serving entities where desperate worshippers are duped.

“People are coming to the churches to be served from the devil’s machinations.” said Khaya Moyo.

Khaya Moyo, who is also the Zanu-PF national spokesperson, said churches should have constitutions that safeguard congregants.

“The church should not be a place where people are subjected to the whimsical and self serving desires of individuals,” he said.

“Churches should have constitutions that safeguard them from abuse by those in authority including, and in particular, founding fathers of those churches.”

Khaya Moyo said the Government was committed to working with IPFZ to improve the socio-economic well being of Zimbabweans.

Leader of the initiative Bishop Munyaradzi Pundo said they would work with the Government in developing the country.

“We will work with Government in uplifting the well being of the country and we will pray for the sanctions to be removed.”

Magaya to apologise to Vapositori

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader, Walter Magaya has called vapositori for a dialogue.

Magaya who has clashed with the group over the past two weeks reportedly called for seize fire.

A source close to the popular prophet said Magaya was calling for a roundtable meeting with the apostolic clan.

“He want things to be normal and as I speak he has engaged them for a meeting which i think will resume next week,” said the source.

Vapositori have vowed to expose him as a magician and fake prophet.

Efforts to get comment from Vapositori were fruitless but on their Facebook page Masowe eChishanu Uk they continued with their attack on Magaya.

At a church service held on Wednesday Magaya said God called all people to minister and he would not want a war between him and the Apostolic sect.

“We are praying for different ministries so that God help us to be fishers of men and not to fight unnecessary wars,” he said.

Though he did not specifically mentioned the saga he said he was a man of God who was sent to minister and not to fight.

In his booklet titled Marine Spirits, Mweya yemumvura: Teachings by Prophet W. Magaya, excerpts of which are broadcasted on his Yadah TV channel and featured in three consecutive issues of the Sunday Mail, the popular preacher claimed that Vapositori, as they are popularly known, are derived from spirits that reside in the marine kingdom and that they do not believe in the Bible.

I would like to dispute those claims by proving with this article that the prophet was lying through his holy teeth. One does not know whether Prophet W. Magaya sat down with his peers and passed the booklet about marine spirits and Vapositori to be the irrefutable truth or he just woke up and wrote it without consultation.

If he wrote it representing all Bible believing churches, it is a shame. If he wrote it representing PHD it is tragic. One cannot imagine the ramifications of his actions to his church after this article successfully proves him a fraud. He has exposed himself as deceitful without anybody asking or helping for that matter. This reminds one of a story from the bible of someone who hated the Jews and wanted to have them killed. Therefore, he built this hanging thing and went to the king to ask for permission to murder the Jews and it turns out that the Queen was Jew! The person ended up hanged instead on the very thing he had built for the Jews! Ironic is not it. Yes, this is another Mordecai story. Now here we are and Prophet Magaya has gone and wrote an item demonising Vapositori but after this piece of writing is done let us see who will be having his neck around a noose.

2 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 14 says, “Do not be equally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” It does not say, “Darkness cannot push away another form of darkness neither can light and darkness stay together”, as claimed by Prophet W. Magaya in the excerpts of his sermon on Vapostori are demonic. The part “…darkness cannot push away another form of darkness,” is not of that verse but the part “… neither can light and darkness stay together,” belongs. Prophet W. Magaya clearly failed to interpret the verse from the book he professes to know.

A true prophet of God would not fail to interpret passages of the bible, because the Holy Spirit in him helps him to deduce it. It is impossible especially in the light that the Holy Spirit does not forget, is ever sharp and never lies. So why is he saying, “Vapostori are demonic?”  Because they do not read the bible, well, with a howler like that one may ask, does he either or he just glance through it?  Darkness can push away another form of darkness. A demon can remove another demon because whichever way one might then look at it, the difference will remain the same.

There is no rule of law in the kingdom of darkness. It is clear that Prophet Magaya did not know what he was talking about judging by the confusion viewpoint contains. Is it because he was blinded by hate and the eagerness to demonise Vapositori overtook reasoning here. The unclean spirit called legion cast out by Jesus into the swine was not a marine spirit. There is no mention of that anywhere near that story and surely it did not say, ‘ send us to the sea, ‘rather” send us to the pigs,” instead. The swine ran into the sea and drowned, that was the end of the pigs and the unclean spirit.

Prophet Magaya (photo: B Kanhamora).

If prophet Magaya is saying Vapostori are of the marine spirits he is implying that kumasowe is where one finds psychiatrists, occultists, scientists and technical engineers who work tirelessly in labs designing satanic stuff. Nevertheless, has anyone ever heard of a Madzibaba who designed a bomb or any weapon?

Prophet Magaya says that those who are possessed by marine spirits are fashion crazy. They are the designers of the sexy, the stylish, shiny and seductive things. The deodorants, the musk and all that stuff that encourage people to get naked. They also infect evil in us via computer games, powerful musical lyrics, movies and all that entertainment that makes a person feel like sinning a lot meaning, all the hits are evil, so there goes your favourite song!

All these things Vapositori havabvumidzwe. A true prophet brings God’s Word to the people and God’s Word alone for that is his sole purpose, not to distract congregates with secular music. Therefore, why a prophet of the Lord need to entertain congregants with wicked vibes boggles ones’ mind especially armed with the knowledge that it poisons the soul. Aren’t he supposed to be getting rid of the stuff, Holy Ghost firing it to hell?

I think he should instead he is being generous to it by providing a platform for it to further sink its influence deep into the soul of the congregation. So the million dollar question is why indulge a spirit one is supposed to eliminate? Prophet Magaya is literally cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner for these marine spirits kumasowe all they get served is Pugartory. So who is demonic here? Who is feeding what these unclean spirits want?

No demon leaves its host while the person it possesses is doing what it desires. Dhimoni rechipfambi hariende kana munhu anaro achichiva nekupomba. Kuchurch kunofanira kutobhowa nokuti mweya yetsvina yatiinayo haidi kunamata.. Zvinotikonzeresa kuti titadze hazvidi kutandara naKristu saka zvino manje kuchurch kuya kana kwavanedhindindi, Kristu anotama nokuti mafaro enyika naKristu zvakapesana.

He also said that they love to partying, but I have never seen mapositori throwing parties. In His house God wants you to give Him his undivided attention kwete kuti muparidzi arikuparidza mumwe munhu ari kungoti nechemumoya dai Tocky adzoka futi arove kaye kanodzi ‘Mhai’ handina kunyatsokafeela mushe. Achanzwa here shoko raMwari munhu iyeye? Kwete. Marine spirits of powerful musical lyrics anenge ave kutomushanda. Zvimwe zvinhu mungangozvifunga henyu like good idea but zvinenge zvakatoshata. Tevedzerai bhaibheri renyu vakomana.

So church is supposed to be boring. The moment you start having fun is the moment it stops being church. What does the spirit gain from worldly music? Absolutely nothing. Idol worshipping ndoo yamunenge mavekutoita nokuti muimba maMwari ndemezvamwari kwete nezzvekubhawa. So if kumasowe were of the marines why are Vapositori not inviting artistes like Jay Z and Beyonce since it is what they love? Look what you have become. Kuenda kuchurch kunonzwa Tocky. Have you ever wondered why it sounds like such a good idea? Nokuti the unclean spirit of the marine resides in you; you do not see anything wrong with a little ass shaking in the church. Murikuunza vanhu kubhawa panekuvaunza kuna Kristu. That is why people throng kwaMagaya; it is not church, kuconcert. Kudisco. Kudhindhindhi.

In the bible, there is nothing about the queen of the Indian Ocean or the queen of the coast so where did prophet Magaya get hold of such out of the bible intelligence? From the Vapostori, I guess since they are the non-bible believing and non bible-reading people around. Or he has been to the Indian Ocean floor and actually seen this monster, queen of the Indian Ocean maybe? He does seem to be well versed in these marine spirits to me. Or maybe it is because he plagiarised the whole thing?

Magaya did not write that booklet of his, he copied it from the net! Whole paragraphs except the part about masowe he got from former mapositori. He plagiarised everybody who wrote stuff about marine spirits and inserted his Vapostori argument somewhere in the middle for a little bit of controversy.

It was no revelation it was more like the leviathan spirit doing what it does best: deception. What I know is that muporofita waMwari anoteererwa kana ari pangoni chete. Kana ave kunzeuko kwete nokuti anenge asisisna zivo remweya. The person simply cut and pasted other people’s work and passed it as his own. What can you say about that? Go on the net now and Google about marine spirits and see what I mean. I do not hate the person. I am just revealing the truth about the matter.

All those who want to open their mouths for the prophet can do so freely I do not care because after this revelation he is finished. I thought I was going to destroy his ministry but by the look of things, he has done a pretty good job by himself.

Prophets do not need to go on plagiarise other people’s work in an effort to convert the masses. No! There is plenty of that from God and there is no need to go on copying sources of unknown origins and pass it as Holy Writ. No! That is in the least is wrong. That is the path taken by false prophets because they are not hearers of the heavens. That is why they go on search the internet for sermons. Things to preach about but in the end we get lies, lies and more lies.

It’s funny you know, in his sermon he said, “Vapostori uses makate full of water, water lilies and water pebbles so they are of the njuzu spirit yet he shower every day, he cooks  using water every day and the doctors say we are seventy percent water everyday so what is he?

Most of his followers wear nothing but sexy, what are they? He also said, “mapostori anoenda kumakomo, mapako, ocean beaches and lakes where they come back prophesising” but he is near Mukuvisi, which is what all I see.

Who knows maybe he takes dip before sermons? About legion, please the swine drowned in the sea and perished. Marine spirits do not die in the sea! It is their home. They thrive in the sea and without a host, on land is where they die. He went on to say that, when people pamasowe would be spiritually under water right. He did not say physically, right. Then he goes on to say that, people are not permitted to run pamasowe because people cannot run underwater! Now here is a problem I see; by saying Vapositori will be spiritually underwater and afterwards saying they are not allowed to run because they will be underwater means that Vapositori will be physically and spiritually underwater, which is absurd, silly and lame since it is all white mumapani every Friday!

One can also take the lie from this equally crushing approach. People are forbidden to run pamasowe, which means people are able to run pamasowe because one cannot forbid someone something they cannot do! One cannot forbid someone from transforming into an apple because people do not transform into apples. It is impossible. Underwater you cannot run whether it is permitted or not. So there is no need for someone getting fussy over someone trying to do what is impossible.

‘Pagwanza’ does not mean crater/pit or hole. It is clear that the synonyms’ of the word ‘gap’ were used out of context here. They foolishly reasoned that since ‘gwanza’ means ‘gap’ and one of ‘gap’ synonyms is ‘hole’ and ‘hole’ synonyms are ‘pit’ and ‘crater’ then ‘gwanza’ means ‘crater/pit/hole. After such

Grade zero way of thinking they came to support their argument on that surmise ignoring a whole lot of logic and common sense.

Prophet Magaya is the one preaching the money; the one wearing the serpent skin shirt, the one smelling nice and dressing sexy, the one buying boutiques for Bev, the one with the expensive wristwatches, the one with a house full of goods from under the sea and the one counting all these poor people’s money at the end of every Sunday.

He fits the profile of a mariner as if he is the profile! One other thing about marine spirits is that they love is to party and Magaya knows this and that is why the entertainment at PHD. Why Tocky, Sulu or Macheso yet they have a church choir? Hosanna not good enough now all of a sudden?  Next thing a bar. Moreover, after that, a brothel!

Everything he described about marine spirits is more consistent with him and his PHD than masowe. He did say ‘the lower ranks take the same form or different profiles of a dragon or serpent’ right.

Thank you prophet magaya for stating that marine spirits are associated with the bling like shoes, socks, jewellery, mobile phones, money…  thank you indeed since you go on to say one is told to remove such items before entering the shrine. Ehe njuzu dziriko asi kumasowe is the last place they can ever want to call home nokuti hakuna chadzinofarira since there is nothing-fashionable kumasowe so marine spirits actually distance themselves from masowe.

Some do come but at their own peril. Some even try to run but they are soon found out and chased away. Some unclean spirits try to be clever like that but ending up being the dummies still. The marine spirit of the makes the females love to do their hair. Kumasowe tinogera bvudzi.

The marine spirit loves miniskirts and tight clothes.  Kumasowe kune magubvuru. The marine spirit likes to make up. Kumasowe hakuna izvozvo. The marine spirit owns the boutiques and the saloons. Kumasowe we own the barbershops. the fabric shop owners smile every time they see our faces because they know what we buy when we enter their stores, nguwo chena, and a lot of it. I am not saying kuti hakuna mapositori anopinda maGreatermans. Sometimes we are overwhelmed with temptation and go out of bounds.

However, only the Holy Spirit permitted to declare that so and so is demonic because they have the permission to do so from the highest authority and since it has become apparent that Prophet Magaya was not filled with the Holy Spirit when he wrote his booklet, he had no to claim that Vapostori are demonic.

‘Blessed are those who read the “anti-marriage Spirits” booklet. I would say, ‘cheated are those … ‘

Mahlupeka claims that he is now a victim of circumstances since Mhere’s mission of marketing his album and getting more prominence seems to have been achieved.

Mahlupeka said they had an appointment with Mathias Mhere on January 29 at Trade Centre to strategize on how they could market the album that was set to be launched February 13.

“I and Mathias met at the Trade Centre and Mhere told me that he needed strategies to market his new album, he decided to create a scenario whereby the message on his new project tally with his life experience.

“On the album there is a song which talks about a marriage collapsing because of infidelity thus he decided to implicate me in his plan,” he said.

He said Mhere is the first to even first person to use his phone,(Mahlupeka’s) to send flattering messages to his wife.

“After the meeting, he took my phone and started sending messages to his wife as part of the plan,” he said.

Mahlupeka admitted to sending Mhere’s wife Susan Dzinamarira messages saying he did that to help a friend.

“Yes I did send messages to Susan and I  did this in the name of helping a friend little did I know that I was the one who was going to be a laughing stock,” he said.

He added that Mhere believes in controversy for marketing.

“He was just afraid of Blessing Shumba album. At first he wanted to fake his own death but we later resolved to sacrifice his wife who was indeed forwarding divorce against the musician,” he said.

He said Mhere’s wife discovered the musician’s secret affairs with a woman only identified as Mavis.

“She had caught messages of Mhere with a woman called Mavis and she wanted to go home,” he said.

Magaya cheats Gweru residents

Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) founder Walter Magaya yesterday cheated thousands of Gweru residents who had converged for a miracle service.

People started trooping to the venue as early as 8 am, in anticipation of the service, but Magaya spent close to 10 minutes at the venue.

An estimated three thousand people braved the afternoon heat before Magaya arrived around 5 pm, but the controversial preacher just prayed for a few people , leaving many stranded.

The charismatic preacher promised that he would return to the venue , but never did for reasons best known to himself.

Magaya never preached to the crowd. Irate residents who spoke to RelZim expressed dismay at Magaya’s conduct , saying he had taken them for a ride.
“He took us for a ride today. I spent the whole day here waiting for him,” Ian Makura said.

Makura added: “All we did the whole day was to buy anointing oil , but his aids never told us that he will not be staying for long.”

The PHD team was seen busy selling anointing oil, wrist bands and other products , cashing in on the gullible crowd.

This time Magaya chose to use an open space , shunning Ascot stadium as he feared that a repeat of the Mbizo tragedy that struck late last year would repeat itself.

The PHD team refused to comment on Magaya’s sudden departure, whilst his faithfuls maintained that he had not come for a service ,but for a visit.

“We were given wrong information. How could the PHD ministries do this to us?” Anne Muzondiwa who absconded work to attend the meeting said.

Others believe that the ‘fake’ meeting was aimed at selling his products where Magaya was promoting his new anointing oil.

Magaya recently drew the ire of the Vapostori sect alleging that their powers come from the marine kingdom.

Since the release of his book on the Marine kingdom , Magaya has been criticized by the sect which also claims that his powers are drawn from snakes.

Despite being ordained a pastor of United Families International Church musician Leonard Zhakata defended his move to stage shows in bars.

The musician said he has been on a mission to preach to those who are lost.

“I have been performing for those who are in bars so that they know God. I don’t see anything wrong on us performing in those places,” he said.

The musician insisted that he would continues to stage circular shows.

He said he would release another album before the end of this year.

“We have an album coming this year. I was happy that the current one is doing well on all charts including gospel charts,” he said.

The musician released an album “Zvangu Zvaita” that was widely viewed as a gospel album.

Songs like “Zvangu Zvaita” and “Dhonza Makomborero” have been topping on gospel charts.

He said he would not tell if the coming album would be 100 percent gospel.

“Most stages have been covered and the album is taking shape. We are now finalising some of the songs and we are confident we have put enough effort to give our fans an excellent product,” said Zhakata.

He said he would only tell if the album would carry all gospel songs after recording.

“I cannot tell if the album will contain gospel tracks because we can only tell the theme after we get out of the studio,” he said.

The Mugove hit maker added that they had been delayed by the fact that he is working with new band members.

“As you know three of my band members have moved on so we are working on the album with new members otherwise we should have released it in March,” he said.

He said he would be offering a completely new package to his fans.

Residents in Harare have hailed United Family International Church leader   prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa for leading thousands of his church members in a massive clean-up campaign in Harare which covered the city’s business area over the weekend.

Harare residents also commended Prophet Makandiwa for being practical in his teachings and actions.

“We were not expecting that a person like Makandiwa could come and sweep at a bus terminus,” said Mr Norman Penzwa, who operates at Simon Muzenda terminus.

One Tafadzwa Madziya said this was a clear sign that the man understands the word of God.

“It shows that he is a humble man and the clean-up campaign is a good initiative and a challenge to all of us.”

Popular Harare socialite Wanisai Mutandwa said it was good that the man of God understand the popular verse that says cleanliness is next to Godlyness.

The clean-up campaign was supported by the Harare City Council, which provided 17 refuse trucks.

The church members were divided into 30 groups comprising hundreds, with each group assigned to a bus terminus or certain streets to sweep and pick up litter.

At Simon Vengai Muzenda Street (formerly Fourth Street) bus terminus, business came to a standstill as people jostled to get a glimpse of Prophet Makandiwa and his wife, who joined a group assigned to clean up the area.

Speaking at a church service at the City Sports Centre just before the exercise, Prophet Makandiwa said there was need for collective effort to achieve a healthy and litter-free country.

“As I was driving in our city I saw a situation that does not require money, but which we can address,” he said. “It’s a programme that requires energy and commitment.I feel there is something practical that we can do for our nation. We have more than 30 places that need to be cleaned.

“As we pray for the nation, we also realise that there are things that require effort and commitment, so in this case we are going to go in every part of the city picking up litter and sweeping every dirty area we will come across.”

Prophet Makandiwa said the Harare City Council was doing its best to remove litter, but that too many people were littering compared to the number of workers it has for the job.

Cleared over illegal mass wedding allegations Emmanuel Makandiwa (photo from The Zimbabwean)

REGISTRAR General Tobaiwa Mudede is investigation United Family International Church (UFIC) founder and renowned televangelist Emmanuel Makandiwa over allegations he solemnized 602 couples during a mass wedding ceremony late last year.

Mudede this week told the media he has over the last few months been investigating the incident to ascertain whether “no law was broken because he (Makandiwa) does not have power to issue marriage certificates at such a grand scale”.

“I wish to respond to newspaper articles which appeared in the press in December where Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa was alleged to have solemnized 606 couples. The Registrar Generals Department does not condone solemnization of mass weddings of any kind,” Mudede said adding that the investigation had been headed by his deputy in charge of marriages Gorden Tsuro.

“Investigations which were carried out by the department however established that what actually took place was not solemnization but it was a church blessing of married couples who already had marriage certificates”.

Mudede “banned” mass weddings in 2012 after reports that some of the marriage officers were facilitating illegal marriages of conveniences mainly involving Zimbabweans and foreigners mainly from West Africa and China.

He described the so-called mass weddings were “treacherous because marriage officers should not issue marriage certificates to multiple couples at the same time”.

“Members of the church (UFI) who participated in the so-called mass weddings must be warned that certificates purportedly issued under such conditions could be invalid and may not be used to secure passports and other important national documentation.

“I wish to emphasize that mass weddings are not permitted. We are still carrying out investigations to establish if we have not been cheated; anyone who will be found going against this position will be prosecuted,” Mudede said.

On the 1st of December last year, the effervescent Makandiwa presided over the marriages of a record 606 couples and described it as a blessing from God.

Mudede, at the time, immediately instituted investigations into the case.

It is not the first time that Makandiwa has had run-ins with the law. A few years ago he was probed by authorities for reportedly producing mobile phone recharge cards without a telecommunication license.

Minister Dokora restores order at Mt Selinda mission

The long standing dispute between United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe and Mt Selinda High school headmaster Rev Watson Bundwa has finally been put to rest following the intervention of  the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora reinstated the sacked school head.

In a letter to Rev Bundwa from the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Sylvia Utete, the ministry said it had made a decision to reinstate the sacked headmaster with immediate effect.

“Further to the meeting between the ministry and the responsible authority, please be advised to resume duties as the substantive head of the school,” reads part of the letter.

The ministry indicated in the letter that it is going to appoint an investigation team to look into allegations raised by the church against him.

The Mt Selinda saga started last year in November when UCCZ’s highest decision making board, synod passed a vote to replace Rev Bundwa whom they accused of defying orders from the responsible authority among a host of allegations.

The church later notified the ministry of its decision to recall Bundwa but the ministry resisted the move saying the allegations raised against him did not warranty his sacking, encouraging the church and the headmaster to resolve the conflict through dialogue.

The church went further to address students on the school opening day were they introduced Tarwira Chitombo as the new headmaster.

This resulted in a series of events in which the District Education Officer for Chipinge and Provincial Education Director tried to intervene and remind the church not to make unilateral decisions without consulting the government.

The matter was then referred to the permanent secretary and Minister Dokora who called a meeting in which the government reinstated Rev Bundwa.

The Word, Our Victory: Seasons

$

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 11, 14 NIV

THERE is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. There is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them.

There is a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

How many people remember their 14th birthday and the events around that day; Christmas three years ago or better still what happened on Tuesday last week? Do you remember the exact time you woke up, the people you interacted with, the meals you ate, the exact time you smiled, frowned or became angry?

Every single day is different; despite our best predications we can never quite tell what will happen and how the day will end. Life is not constant, things change.

Whatever period you may be going through, a time of depression, happiness, illness, exams or anticipation, one thing is certain you won’t always be in the state you are in now. GOD pretty much designed our life to be a virtual constant a never ending journey of different emotional states.

Take heed as Solomon so wisely advised that there is a season for everything. If you are in a season of uncertainty, depression or fear, be rest assured that you will soon arrive at a train station where these particular loads will be unloaded.

It could be as soon as the next hour, but with certainty, I can assure you, the days designated for Easter or Independence day will come and pass, just like they did the year before and they have done in years gone past and will do in years to come.

If you are in a state of happiness or delight that too shall come to pass and end, so if that is the station you find yourself in today, embrace it and thank the LORD for the delight he has brought. For this too shall end for a period and come back again.

Let us therefore accept the seasons of our life. Let us live with that knowledge that everything is for a time. As we embrace the happy moments with delight, let us brace ourselves for the bad moments, like JOB let us be in constant prayer, never leaving the alter room of GOD, in disgust, frustration and or general sense of betrayal like many feel, when things begin to go wrong.

How many people have you heard say, ‘I am so angry with GOD, he let me down’? They even go further to say, ‘I won’t be going to church anymore, I just can’t forgive him’. Learn from JOB; pray that your season of despair ends and whatever lessons or place you were meant to be transported to that it all happens sooner than its intended course, which may be very short or long depending on how you react to your circumstances.

The things we face today will end; let’s patiently ride out the storm. Verse 14 says “That each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil – this is the gift of GOD”.

May our LORD and father help each one of us to find our purpose through the seasons he allows us to pass through; after all, what can be more important than fulfilling the will of GOD for our lives. May you find meaning in whatever station you may be at.
Verse 11: “For he has made everything beautiful in its time”.

Be blessed.
