A self-styled prophet landed himself in the dock after he reportedly bashed a female client who had visited his shrine seeking his services.
Madzibaba Edmore Nyambo, of No. 5776 Zimre Park, appeared at the Harare magistrates’ court answering to charges of assault and indicating a witch or wizard as stated in Section 99 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.
He had allegedly fingered Juliet Chikoka as a witch who was responsible for the illness of her daughter-in-law.
He denied the charges saying he never laid his hands on the 56-year-old but they were demons who were fighting on their own.
Madzibaba Nyambo also told the court that he never called her a witch but they were demons which were fighting.
Magistrate Blessing Murwisi remanded him out of custody on US$200 bail.
Prosecutor Patience Chimusaru said on April 20 Juliet accompanied her relatives including her daughter-in –law who was not feeling well and sought the services of Madzibaba Nyambo.
Upon arrival at the shrine, they asked to pay entrance fees before Madzibaba alledgelly started accusing Juliet of causing the illness of her daughter-in-law.
The court heard that the incident ended with Madzibaba Nyambo assaulting Juliet.
The 56-year-old went to lodge a complaint with the police leading to the Madzibaba Nyambo’s arrest before being taken to court where he is facing two charges.
